Soups and chili have been going strong!  So far we have offered White Bean & Kale, Carrot-Quinoa-Cauliflower, Triple Lentil with Rice, and today was a creamy (but non-dairy) Broccoli soup. The Black Bean Chocolate Chili is still in rotation also.  We are offering hot soup and/or chili Monday-Friday from 11-2 (ask if hot still before or after those hours). We also have it in the freezer and fridge next to our hummus to buy any time.

February 18, 2016

Have you heard we are now serving hot chili?  The black bean chocolate chili you loved at Tour de Chocolat is now available everyday! We are serving it hot from our kitchen during the midday, but also have it already dished up in cups both in our freezer and our fridge next to the hummus!  Ready for you to grab and heat up at your convenience.  When we have it hot, just order at the counter and we’ll get it from the kitchen. We hope to branch out into other soups too in the near future. Enjoy!

We’re setting up for Tour de Chocolat tomorrow in Downtown Bloomington. We’ll be serving black bean chocolate chili, vegan brownies, chocolate pu erh tea, hot cocoa and from 5-8pm we’re offering 10% off all chocolate bars! Hope to see you!

We’re also excited to announce that we’ll have fresh chicken from Sullivan’s Farm (Greenview, IL) available starting Friday night. They will be in our refrigerator for a few days and then frozen.  The chickens are humanely raised but not currently pastured because of a coyote problem. We’ve visited the farm and learned the meat birds are both male and female and have lots of space to live in.  If these are popular, we’d be able to get them every week!

January 20, 2016

Two Weeks Till Thanksgiving!

Have you made plans for your main dish yet? We are still taking orders for local turkeys and have some in stock if you want one today.  For the veg*ns, we have classic Tofurky Roast, two soy-free options from Field Roast: Cranberry Hazelnut En Croute and 1 pound celebration roasts, and Gardein individual serving sized Savory Stuffed Turk’y. In stock now!

Look to our produce department for organic potatoes, local sweet potatoes, local butternut squash, local salad mix, fresh herbs and more. Of course we have all the staple items you might need; spices (New Turkey Rub or Brine Seasoning!), nuts, grains, sweeteners, flours, milks, and eggs.

For dessert, we have Wholly Wholesome pie crusts in organic whole wheat or gluten-free and bake-at-home vegan pumpkin pies. Also in the frozen section, Happles Organic Apple pie is handmade in Iowa with 100% Spelt crust.
To fill those crusts, we have locally grown pie pumpkins and organic granny smith apples.

For those with dietary restrictions, we have lots of dairy, egg, and gluten-free products. Many of these products are so similar to conventional products that your traditional family recipes can be made with little or no change of flavor. Try Tofutti’s dairy-free sour cream and cream cheese for sauces and toppings. For sweet potato and marshmallow casserole, delicious Dandies Marshmallows are made with no gelatin and no gluten. Earth Balance makes several alternatives to butter to fit dairy-free diets, some are also soy free. The staff at Common Ground is very knowledgeable about substitutions for diet restrictions so come in and talk to us.

Have a great holiday!

Welcome back students!
Along with the students, we’d like to welcome back some regional products that have been away from our shelves for a while!
Three Queens Organic Maple Syrups are back! Made in Southwest Wisconsin, available in three types to suit your taste.  15% of all their profits go to art programs!
From their website…

Amber- Amber syrup is made from early season sap and is lightest in flavor. Ideal as a topping for ice cream or a sweetener for tea, it is the rarest of the three queens.

Dark Amber- Dark Amber has a full  flavor and a stronger maple taste. It is our best seller and has the right balance of maple goodness.

Very Dark Amber-  Very dark is our most robust of the syrups. Coming in at the end of the season, this syrup is rich in flavor and is a favorite for pancakes, waffles and french toast.

Our Date Lady product line has expanded to include Date Sugar. Date sugar lends a gentle sweetness to baked goods and has a fiber and mineral  not found in most other sweeteners. Organic and Vegan!  We still have the delicious date caramel sauce, pure date syrup and date balsamic vinegar.

New today to our regional product line are gourmet caramel sauces by Chocolate Twist in 3 flavors: Epic sea salt, cayenne cinnamon and soy balsamic.  Unique sweet and savory combinations will delight your taste buds!
